Audits
Assessing the quality of clinical outcomes for patients cared for within BMI hospitals is a fundamental, robust, routine, evidence-based process within our overall quality and risk management strategy.
Outcomes from our rolling cycle of clinical audits are reported and reviewed at local, regional and national level as part of quality assurance and performance assessment, inputting to our continuous improvement process.
All clinical audits are tailored to the specific needs of the hospital environment and provide an integral part of our risk management activity.
Our nursing audits
BMI Healthcare performs, as a minimum standard, annual nursing audits. Further performance audits including theatre practice are based on the National Association of Theatre Nurses Audit. Results of audits are collated and reports reviewed at local, regional and national levels.
This ongoing process provides BMI Healthcare with a standardised system of nursing performance criteria. Within each region and at national level the system facilitates benchmarking best practice and identification of focus areas for development.
Training, continuous professional development and induction
Our human resource strategy and best management practices mean that we have comprehensive programmes for induction, training and continuous professional development. This is an integral part of our quality policy at General Healthcare Group (GHG).
Induction programmes
Our induction programme covers:
Our overall business structure, values, policies and procedures
Individual unit health and safety, risk management, quality and operational requirements
Individual job responsibilities, reporting, training, standards and regulatory requirements
We include clear briefing on disciplinary criteria and procedures that are rigorously implemented in the interests of best quality health care delivery.
Training and continuous development programmes
Training and continuous professional development programmes are tailored to each individual's needs, qualifications, professional registrations and role within the organisation.
These programmes and their outcomes are assessed as part of personal appraisals, integrated with plans for other team members and continuously updated in line with changes in best practice, standards and regulation.
Personal development
Each employee is responsible for maintaining their own annual documented personal development plan. Copies are held by both the employee and their line manager.
These plans are an integral part of our annual staff performance appraisals.
